I have a list of books I want to read and am reading, sort of. As a teenager I went through books a week now I struggle to read one book. I have set aside time every day to read however, I find my mind wanders within minutes. I am determined to read more because I want to learn more.
Why don’t we read? Because we put our trust in the words of church leaders, political leaders, television personalities and social media. Why read when you can have someone tell you what you need to know? We don’t have to read.
There was a statement I hard decades ago: If you want to keep information from a person put it in a book.
It is more important today to not just read but research. There is so much misinformation in existence today and pressure to not question what is being stated as facts. With the amount of data available it becomes overwhelming to many people and they choose to accept what seems to be acceptable even if it is not logical.
The fact that I am writing and not creating a YouTube video about reading decreases the number of individuals who will receive my thoughts. Many people purchase books to support the author but have no intention of ever reading it. How many people own a Bible but have not read it’s entire contents?
It is time to challenge yourself and begin reading again.
Stop listening to the opinions of other people: this book is to hard, this book has to many pages start with something simple, you won’t like this, and just read. I am a slow reader but I know I will finish the book eventually. I struggle with books by Watchman Nee, I have been reading one, on and off, for over 10 years but I will finish it EVENTUALLY!. I am reading one book that I am struggling with, I take it as a challenge. The first time I read the King James Version of the Bible, some parts I understood quickly other parts I did not but I read it from Genesis to Revelation and I have read it numerous times since.
I am motivated to read because there is so much misinformation out there that I believe it is imperative that I come to my own conclusions. I am not really a slow reader, I just take notes as I read and I think about what I am reading, this takes time. I am reading and I am watching less television, I am developing a reading habit.
