I believe a 24 hour time period did not begin until Day 4 when Elohim created the sun and the moon.
Genesis 1:14-19 (KJV)Why would Elohim need time? He is eternal, he cannot be limited by hours, days, months, years or even seasons. He is infinite, earth is finite. But this I know He did yield Himself to the finite world so that we would be able to join Him in infinity.
14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good. And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
Psalm 121:4-5 (KJV)
Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.
The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand.
JOHN 1:1-4,14Why is this important? For a lot of reasons however an important reason is the desire of man to justify by his own understanding all that is written. Think of Isaiah 55:8-9 as the GOD RULE: His ways and thoughts are not the same as mans’ ways and thoughts.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
Isaiah 55:8-9 (KJV)We are created in His image (Genesis 1:26). When we accept Yeshua as the Messiah it is the spirit within us that is “born again” and it is the spirit within us that allows us to understand His ways and His thoughts. (2 Corinthians 2:10-16)
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
I looked up the Hebraic term for “day” it is yôm and simply indicates temperature- to be hot. The translators interpreted the word in, according to Strongs 14+44 (see below) words of which the term “day” was used the most. To me the best definition is: A space of time

This is MY Scripture study, you do not have to agree many theologians do not.
The following is my prayer as I study His words:
Abba Father as I continue and begin this journey of reading Your words I ask that all wisdom, knowledge and understanding come from You. I desire to study, to develop understanding and to receive wisdom. I yield my flesh to You. I believe that which is written in the context of its’ intent.
Let the words that are written and my understanding bring prosperity into my life that I may be whole lacking nothing. IN THE NAME OF YESHUA HAMASHIACH I PRAY- AMEN.
Respectfully, Marsha L F Randolph
