A MATTER OF FAITH: PRAYING FOR SALVATION

COMING SOON
We all have loved ones who do not have a personal relationship with God. If Jesus is not Lord of their lives at the time of their last breath they will not rest in peace when they die, no matter how many people say it, no matter how many candles are lit. Therefore, it is is important that the gift of salvation is accepted on this side of eternity.

It is unfortunate that family and friends do not follow those of us who are born again as we follow Jesus. As brothers and sisters in the Lord we should live a life that reflects His goodness and love and pray.

You may not be the one who can lead that family member or friend to the Lord but your prayers avail much.

JAMES 5:16 King James Version
Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

Though not everyone will respond to the call of salvation, it is the will of God that all are saved. As a believer it is important that our behavior does not become a reason why an individual is not a Christian.

We do not pray that the Lord “save” a loved one. Jesus said:

MATTHEW 9:37-38
Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.

Our prayer, therefore, is for laborers; but, we too should labor and bring in the harvest of souls. As followers of Christ we have a responsibility to be communicators of His truths.

ACTS 11:26 THE EXPANDED
and when he found Saul, he brought him to Antioch. For a whole year Saul and Barnabas met with the church and taught many people there. In Antioch the ·followers [disciples] were called Christians for the first time [C highlighting that they were followers of Christ, and perhaps that they were no longer viewed as merely a sect within Judaism].

If you are a follower of Christ you are a disciple thus you are to go into the world and teach other people, by your behavior as well as your words about Jesus the Savior.

It is not just friends and family that we should pray for but leaders, neighbors and even our enemies.

1 TIMOTHY 2:1-4
I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; for kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

When you pray for a stranger, a friend or even a loved one remember it is not God who will “save” that person it is a laborer who will present the good news of Jesus to them.   - Marsha L F Randolph
