A MATTER OF FAITH: IS JESUS REALLY LORD OF YOUR LIFE?

Romans 10:9-11
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.  For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

A Pastor once told me that a person could believe Jesus was Lord and not allow him to be Lord of his life. On a recent post I commented: “Though I had made a confession of faith at the age of 9, Jesus did not become Lord of my life until I was 30.” Being saved and allowing God’s word to have authority over you life is different. Thus, the question we must each ask ourselves: “Is Jesus really Lord of my life?”

Lordship can be explained via an example between a tennant and the owner of a dwelling. We, at least most of us, understand who and what a landlord is; simply stated he is master of the land. The ‘lord’ of the land has authority over that land and can establish rules that the inhabitants live by, violation of the rules have consequences. A landlord does not have authority over a person’s life just the building that he lives in.

When a person makes a declaration of faith by stating: “Jesus is Lord of my life”, he believes God the Son is his Master. Therefore, ownership of his life is transferred from the individual to God and the choices he makes, though acceptable to man, will have adverse consequences if they go against the will, rules, of God.

We are triune beings: body, mind, and spirit. When we accept Jesus as Lord the spirit within us is birthed, we are born again. Scripture teaches us to renew our mind (Romans 12:2); it is our mind that we are yielding to the Lord. Our body has sinful tendencies thus we are instructed to: walk in the Spirit” so that we will not give into the “lust of the flesh”.  (Galatians 5:16)

None of us have achieved one hundred percent obedience. There is a constant struggle between what we want to do and what we actually do (Romans 7:23-24.) There are some behaviors that are willful acts of disobedience this is how you know if Jesus is Lord of your life or you like th demons simply know Him. Acts such as abortion and homosexuality are not acceptable to God, man has manipulated the word to justify these acts. Committing a sin that you know is a sin indicates that you have allowed your flesh to be Lord of your life.

2 TIMOTHY 2:16
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

When you allow Jesus to be Lord of your life you make your best effort to adhere to the instructions for living found in the Bible. The first step is to believe in your heart that Jesus is who Scripture tells us He is; Jesus is God the Son. The next step is to establish a personal relationship with Him. We are not perfect but we are perfected when we follow His commandments.

A simple prayer can be found in Psalm 27:11: “Teach me Your way, O Lord, and lead me in a smooth path, because of my enemies.”  Remember: Jesus is Lord. Amen.
