I don't plan on ever retiring but I do want to reach a point in which I can live comfortably and debt free if I decided to not work. I know so many people in their 60's who are not in a place financially in which they can stop working.

In my Tax Preparation business I refer young people to a financial adviser who can help them develop a retirement plan. I talk to everyone about getting debt free. Most people cannot handle an emergency, which is why the government has to step in when there are weather related disasters and the community to has to assist when a person has to bury a loved one.Rarely does a client listen to me the first time.

YOU'RE NOT READY I have learned: People need to not only focus on getting debt free but they also need to learn to live within their means. DON'T GET OUT OF DEBT JUST TO GET BACK IN!
