GRIEVING WHO?????

NETTIE-ISM: A Nettie-ism is a thought I have, an idea that I am pondering. A Nettie-ism is based on my understanding, I could be wrong, if I am I will correct myself.





As of this writing, January 28,2020, there have been 11 Law Enforcement Officers killed in the line of duty.     This month 2 U. S. Troops died while on duty.    The names of the deceased were released, many people commented via social media, some said a silent prayer and they they moved on.

Because we were born we will die, our goal is to live a long productive life. When a person dies at an early age, regardless of his or her career, it is distressing- grief is natural.  We grieve when a person dies because of how what happened between the dashes affected us. Between the dashes? Date of birth-dash-Date of death.

When a celebrity dies many grieve because he or she entertained us. When a politician dies we grieve because he or she championed causes we supported.

When a man or woman in the military or a Law enforcement officer dies, do we grieve? Perhaps a brief moment of sadness for the people left behind but we really do not give it much thought, most people don’t.

When the Basketball player died in the helicopter crash the comments were towards him and his daughter; there was even mention of the other individuals on board. I don’t recall anyone talking about the pilot.

There is a superficial personal relationship with celebrities general but, they don’t know you. Celebrities do not know you nor do the men and women in uniform, military and law enforcement. Celebrities will not die for you, many of the men and women in uniform did.

In the upcoming days many will pay tribute to the celebrity who died in the helicopter crash. They will wonder: Whose fault is it? Police officers will continue to patrol the streets and respond to emergencies while being disrespected by people they try to serve.

We, the United States government, are still bringing the remains of unnamed individuals who served in past wars. Is there anyone who will grieve for them?
