IT IS A PRAYER ABOUT....

NETTIE-ISM: I was taught it, Ephesians 3:20, was a means for obtaining not a prayer for spiritual growth. Somehow,in various churches I attended,  verse 20 was was presented as a dismissal blessing or a type of encouragement.

We are influenced by what we see and hear. We allow people we believe to be trustworthy to teach us. Although, we believe no one is perfect we are perfectly willing to accept the words of a person because he or she is: mom, dad, Pastor, teacher, government leader and even friend.

When we die we must know what we know based on our personal knowledge. As we live it is the knowledge we have that determines the quality of our life.

EPHESIANS 3:20
Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,

This verse has been taught to me as a word of encouragement: God is able to help you through your troubled times. This verse has been presented to me as a blessing: Because you believe He will do more for you than you can ever imagine. This verse was never presented to me as a seed, being planted in my soul that would facilitate my spiritual growth and development.
EPHESIASN 3:14-21 New King James Version
For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love,  may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

Verse 20 is the Apostle justifying his authority to pray this prayer. “All that we ask or think” is “according to” what he, a believer, is authorized to do. In addition it is important to note that his prayer request does not bring embarrassment to the church.

What should be important to the believer is not the growth of his or her net worth but the growth of his or her relationship with Father God with the help of the Spirit of God.
