CORINTHIANS vs. AMERICA

MY JOURNEY: OCTOBER 20, 2018 I had to read it from the beginning!

When I read, study, Scripture it really is for personal reasons. I need to learn what GOD, YHWH wants me to do. As I began reading 1 Corinthians a few nights ago I noticed a few significant thoughts that could be expounded upon, I underlined quite a bit. As I completed chapter 9, I felt the need to go deeper, it is not always about me.

Corinthians as described in the VOICE:
"It was known primarily as a place of sin, decadence, and corruption. If someone was looking for prostitutes, orgies, pagan festivals, or abundant alcohol, then Corinth was the place. However, if a person was looking for a faithful church, then this would seem an impossible location- but not with God."
(THE VOICE  Introduction to 1 CORINTHIANS , Letter to the church in Corinth, From Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles By Ecclesia Bible Society published Thomas Nelson copyright 2012).

Corinthians was a place in which fleshly behaviors may not have been the standard but it was not hidden. Both Jews and followers of Yeshua lived amongst this busy community where travelers frequented. Of course, YHWH was not the only God worshiped. Corinthians worshiped gods.

1 CORINTHIANS 8:5-6  THE VOICE
And even if the majority believes there are many so-called gods in heaven and on earth (certainly many worship such “gods” and “lords”), this is not our view.  For us, there is one God, the Father who is the ultimate source of all things and the goal of our lives. And there is one Lord—Jesus the Anointed, the Liberating King; through Him all things were created, and by Him we are redeemed.
As I look at what is happening in America today I see how relevant this book is for this country today.
1 CORINTHIANS 4:15 THE VOICE
You may have 10,000 instructors in the faith of the Anointed One, but you have only one father. In Jesus the Anointed I have become your father through my efforts in spreading the good news.
The question is: Who are you following? The Apostle Paul tells those in Corinthians to follow him as he follows Christ. (4:15-17). Are not all churches following Christ? NO!

Far to many Christians have developed a loyalty to their church based on the words of their church leader. Like the people in Corinth both Jews and Christians have found it easier to live as they please by attending houses of worship that ignore or endorse their lifestyles.

I see many churches in America that reflect what the Apostle Paul saw in the 50's AD. How sad.
