I remember as a child attending Kent Baptist Church in Landover, Maryland. I would go with friends and sit in the Sunday School class not knowing most of what was discussed; of course since I had not been there the week before I would not know. I also remember my grandmother asking my brother to quote the 23rd Psalm. I didn't know it either but I did know enough to critique my brother so my grandmother would not ask me! "You don't know? The Lord is my Shepherd I shall not want?" I questioned him. That little bit was enough for my granny to believe I knew it and to make my brother memorize the Psalm, at least some of it.
It was not until I was an adult attending Bible Study classes that I was made to actually feel like crap about how much I did not know. I would hear: "That is not what that means!" "Don't you know?" But, having been reading and studying the word for decades I realize- they did not know either. We never stop learning God's word, those who think they know it all don't know anything.
2 TIMOTHY 3:14-14
But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
I learned something as a child attending Kent Baptist Church, how else would I have been familiar with Psalm 23. Unfortunately, today's children are not being taught anything!
ISAIAH 54:13
All your children shall be taught by the Lord, and great shall be the peace of your children.
Look around at all the angry, frustrated children- lacking peace. I daresay, some even attended Sunday School! No matter how you slice it the word declares we are to teach our children about Him and they will have peace.
What we learned as children should carry us into adulthood. Churches that teach GOD are called legalistic churches, labeled traditional and / or ignored. Learning about GOD has become secondary, replaced with learning how to get what is needed to survive.
My go to / reality check/ stop complaining Scripture was and is MATTHEW 6:33, Yahovah Eloheem should be our priority.
MATTHEW 6:33The reality of life is: STUFF HAPPENS! God knows about our stuff and He will get us through if we make Him a priority- this we should have been taught as a child. WHAT ARE OUR CHILDREN LEARNING? written by Marsha L F Randolph
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
