A MATTER OF FAITH- SONG OF SOLOMON 1:2-4

SONG OF SOLOMON 1:2
Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth: for thy love is better than wine.

Has God ever kissed you?  Remember when Judas kissed Jesus?

MARK 14:44
And he that betrayed him had given them a token, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he; take him, and lead him away safely.

Judas kissed the Son of God not with love but for self indulgent reasons.  There are many false kisses manifesting in the world today.

We know that God is love (1 John 4) and those who love, truly love, do not soil love with worldly ideologies.

SONG OF SOLOMON 1:3
Because of the savour of thy good ointments thy name is as ointment poured forth, therefore do the virgins love thee.

There is much to say about ointments:  “…thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.” (Psalm 23:5b) But what does that mean? What does it mean to be anointed?  Solomon goes on to say: “thy name is as ointment poured forth”.

By definition a virgin is pure, uncorrupted by fleshly desires.  I think, there is more to this kiss than just foreplay. (Forgive me if that offended you.)

SONG OF SOLOMON 1:4
Draw me, we will run after thee: the king hath brought me into his chambers: we will be glad and rejoice in thee, we will remember thy love more than wine: the upright love thee.

Now we are getting a bit more intense! I have been using the King James Bible however my New King James as well as other translations seperate the words based on who is speaking.

It is the woman, the Shulamite, that request: “Draw me.” And “The king hath brought me into his chambers.”  (Did you notice it is “chambers” and not chamber?)

There is much to learn about God’s love and even love between a man and a woman in just these 3 verses.  Reading the Bible in a year is great and if your goal is to read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation go for it. The challenge is to study Scripture and learn from it.  I am concluding for now because I want to meditate on a few things and I hope you do too!    - It is a MATTER OF FAITH written by Marsha L F Randolph
