MATTHEW 9:29
Then He touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith let it be to you.”
People get what they deserve; harsh words I know but a greater reality than most people realize. This verse, Matthew 9:29 is very telling: You will receive what you believe. There is another verse that is similar in fashion:
MATTHEW 12:37I have to add the following:
“For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”
MATTHEW 12:34 (Note Jesus said this before the 12:27 above)
Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.
The words of people fascinate me, particularly when they are interacting with people they perceive as equal to them. In an environment in which a person feels comfortable he is more willing to speak freely.
Words spoken from the heart (Matthew 12:34) justify or condemn him (Matthew 12:37). Words spoken from the heart reveal what a person really believes.
What is self-fulfilling prophecy? It is when you speak something about yourself that comes true. Confirmation comes when you hear yourself say: “I knew this would happen.” It happened not because God wanted it to happen but because you declared it into existence.
I saw this often when I used to pray for people who asked for a healing prayer. I would pray, the person would agree and state “I agree, Amen” and then go to the doctor and tell everyone what the doctor said. In the person's mind the doctor's words were greater, had more validity, than more words of prayer which incorporated God’s word.
“Christians” fear cancer because they know so many people who have died from it, they know how sick chemotherapy makes you and that radiation treatment is horrible; they fear having body parts removed. “Christians:” have Bibles, attend church, watch Christian programs, listen to Christian radio shows, know all the latest Christian songs yet look to others for help. Do they think God needs help?
When I say people are getting what they prophesied over themselves, if you think about it, it is true. Jesus said in Matthew 9:29: “According to your faith let it be to you.” I hear individuals, who call themselves Christian, declare such anti-biblical concepts as the following:
- President Trump is a racist therefore Black people are doing bad
- Barack Obama has done more for this country than any other President
- People are born gay
- There is nothing wrong with have sex before marriage
- Everybody in my family has (name a disease) so I know I am going to get it
- The doctor gave me these pills
- I can’t save money
- Every dime I earn goes to paying bills
- I can’t afford it
I could add more to the list. My point is people are not dependent on God to live; in their heart God’s word is secondary. In the minds of most people, myself included, there are things that we believe that cause us to behave a particular way- this is particularly noticeable when it comes to healing. We have allowed the ways of man to override God’s words.
So what do you do to override these beliefs? First: determine what you believe and evaluate what you are doing. What are you saying when you are around your friends, co-workers and family? Start telling yourself God’s word and stop listening to man’s opinions. Here is another biblical truth:
ROMANS 3:4This does not mean you ignore the problem. Look at what is going on in your life from God’s perspective not man’s. Remember, when Jesus went to the town that He grew up in He could not help the people as much as He could have (Mark 6:5) because they did not see Him, the Messiah, as the solution to their problems.
Certainly not! Indeed, let God be true but every man a liar. As it is written: “That You may be justified in Your words, and may overcome when You are judged.”
I believe and I tell people frequently: I am blessed. I am blessed not because I do not have problems but because God has already solved them all. I am blessed because all of my needs are taken care of regardless of what my bank balance says, the doctor thinks or the opinion of my friends and family. I am blessed because it is the only way I can be a blessing to others.
Dear Christian Reader: Stop cursing yourself with those negative words which become self-fulfilling prophesies. Be blessed so that you too can be a blessing. - written by Marsha L F Randolph
