Looking back will not help you move forward. Though we often go down memory lane, there are no real advantages to looking at your past. We should remember the lesson learned not the events that triggered the lesson.
Don’t look back to go back, look to remember why you should keep moving forward.
DEUTERONOMY 9:7
“Remember! Do not forget how you provoked the Lord your God to wrath in the wilderness. From the day that you departed from the land of Egypt until you came to this place, you have been rebellious against the Lord.
In the wilderness the people made a golden calf they had fun but the fun displeased God. The lesson learned is not to serve false gods. When we look back we are not to focus on how much fun was had but the consequences of that fun.
Many say: “I will forgive but I will not forget.” That is not true forgiveness. There are times when we must forgive the individual yet distance yourself from the same person; the lesson being: This is not someone I should associate myself with.
The good ole’ days had pockets of fun but many painful moments- temporary pleasures and avoidable pain. We do not look back because there is nothing that can be done about what is done.
If I remember the lessons learned, as I move forward by faith, I will not repeat the same mistakes. - written by Marsha L F Randolph
