People choose to avoid pain today without any thought of the problems it creates for tomorrow.
DEUTERONOMY 30:19
I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live;
No, it is not always easy to endure the emotional or physical pain of saying no. Enough has to be enough at some point, be it drug addiction or sexual behavior or even eating more than you need, the pleasure you experience today has unforeseen consequences that you do not want to endure.
Of course most people know this. There are television shows dedicated to people who are morbidly obese and are confined to their home. We all know the stories of drug addicts, many who are famous, who die from an overdose. Sexual behaviors outside of God’s plan are never satisfying: the suicide rate among homosexuals is high, many who indulge in their sexual fantasies are angry or depressed rarely happy. Even people who spend more money than they have know that eventually they have to face the consequences of their behavior.
Life and death are the realities of living. A person who is spiritually dead does not understand what is means to be born again. People who avoid the pain and continue to indulge themselves in ungodly pleasures are living dead.
We suffer by choice. We live by choice.
The sooner you choose life the sooner joy comes. People do stop using drugs. People do loose weight. People do live by the Spirit so that they will not seek to satisfy their flesh in ungodly relationships.
The reason doing things God’s way has become so difficult is because their are so many opinions. You do not need a person to tell you how to do things God’s way. The Truth is revealed to everyone many just choose to ignore it.

You see, in the good news, God’s restorative justice is revealed. And as we will see, it begins with and ends in faith. As the Scripture declares, “By faith the just will obtain life.”
For the wrath of God is breaking through from heaven, opposing all manifestations of ungodliness and wickedness by the people who do wrong to keep God’s truth in check. These people are not ignorant about what can be known of God, because He has shown it to them with great clarity. From the beginning, creation in its magnificence enlightens us to His nature. Creation itself makes His undying power and divine identity clear, even though they are invisible; and it voids the excuses and ignorant claims of these people because, despite the fact that they knew the one true God, they have failed to show the love, honor, and appreciation due to the One who created them! Instead, their lives are consumed by vain thoughts that poison their foolish hearts.
