But beware of men, for they will deliver you up to councils and scourge you in their synagogues.
I have been reading this chapter for a few days now and decided to start all over again this morning. I had already noted that Jesus was talking specifically to the 12 men He called to follow Him but I discovered this principle. (People today who just went, though they were not sent, don’t have the power.)
Of course I don’t attend a synagogue, I barely attend a church, but…!
I have to be cautious of people, we all should be aware of people, friends and family can be inconsistent in their loyalties to you. Think of the synagogue as a ‘safe space’ like your home or even your church.
Think about this: There are churches that are declaring themselves sanctuary for illegal aliens. Would they harbor members of the MS-13 gang, individuals who pose as sheep but are actually wolves? Are the churches harboring children of Satan because they want to defy the government? Beware! Your church leader could be the one who delivers you to the very ones who want to persecute you. It is called unintentional consequences.
We are in the ending of times, there are those who will turn their backs on you in order to save themselves. Think about all the killings in Chicago, somebody knows something yet they are all silent.
Who is this ‘council’ that Jesus speaks of in the book of Matthew? A governing body; a group of leaders;the owners of a restaurant? Look at what happened to Sara Sanders, and Candace Owens. Both were going to get something to eat and were attacked.
I have to be aware that not everyone will be a friend to me. The only real safe space is with Jesus. - written by Marsha L F Randolph
