FOUR GIFTS

MY JOURNEY: December 24, 2018

ISAIAH 11:6
“The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, the leopard shall lie down with the young goat, the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.

Every year my youngest daughter takes my niece out Christmas shopping and I take my grandson, we do this so my daughter does not have to bear the financial burden of taking her children shopping for gifts. The past few years my grandson’s taste has gone from casual to quality, for me this is a financial challenge. This year was no different but:

My grandson, Randal, had to get 5 gifts, including one for me. The gift for his sister was done in advance, it was special order meaning I had to make it. His gift for his grandfather was done with his aunt because as a family we had decided the theme for him was “a new wardrobe”. I had found a unique gift that I knew his mother would love so I purchased it and showed it to him- he had the right to yea or nay it- he liked it. His aunt had requested something very specific and he wanted to accommodate her.

Every item he picked out for his aunt was, even with the sale, beyond his budget. I also suggested to him that he should spend more money on his mother than anyone else- my grandson ignored the statement.

After making the purchases he personally wrapped each gift and I prayed about our outing this year. I had such fun being out with Randal, we really shopped until we dropped- he also helped me pick out my gift for his grandfather! My grandson has standards!

The Spirit reminded me what my grandson already knew. In fact my grandson had said earlier: We don’t need a tree or gifts if we are together as a family. (I am paraphrasing but the essence of these words were out of the mouth of an 11 year old!) There is no price on quality.
The 4 gifts my grandson purchased:

  1. For his grandfather clothing. His grandfather often purchasing things for him to wear even though it is obvious he needs new clothes.
  2. For his aunt, what she asked for a purse. She always gives him what he ask for.
  3. For his sister, a personalized tote bag designed by him. She is one of a kind and he really does love her.
  4. For his mother a large mug that says “QUEEN” - because he is (as she calls him) her Prince, my grandson loves his mother. This mug was the second best gift he gave.

What was the best gift? The one gift he did not buy. We spent an entire day he and I talking, hanging out buying stuff for others. The best gift will always be the time you spend together. And a child shall lead them.                            Written by Marsha L F Randolph
