PHILIPPIANS 2:12I still believe man cannot get me into heaven or keep me out of hell. And, I still believe that I have to assume responsibility for my own faith. It is these two key factors that motivates me challenge other people’s opinions and search the Scriptures for truths.
Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;
1 JOHN 4:1This past year has been filled with new understandings and deeper insights. I have explored the Hebraic roots of my faith and listened to those who have studied it for a lot longer than I. Many teachers of Messianic Torah followers have YouTube channels and I can listen to them speak, take notes, study, pray and meditate on what has been said; this is what I have done.
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
What I see is a group of people who have a long list of “Thou shalt nots”. Like most denominational Christians there are variations of what is and is not acceptable to YHWH.
MARK 7:13In order for me to accept what is presented as part of the Torah followers or Hebraic Roots Movements I must rejected the effective ministries of men and women I admire.
making the word of God of no effect through your tradition which you have handed down. And many such things you do.”
Christmas and Easter are two very distinguishing factors. Traditional Christians celebrate both the Old Covenant focused groups acknowledge neither.
What you can and cannot eat is another issue. Do you eat pork? Can you eat pork?
How about what women wear and what men wear? First of all men in the old Covenant times did not wear pants/ slacks or shorts! Just sayin’. Second, I am generally a conservative dresser but I like sleeveless shirts because it keeps me from getting to hot and I don’t like anything around my neck; no one can accuse me of dressing provocatively but Torah folk might have a problem with the camisoles I wear.
I have discovered, THIS IS MY PERSONAL OPINION, Hebraic roots focused people, followers of the Torah, are so focused on not being like “Christians” that they have inadvertently become legalistic. My Christian brothers and sisters who are aware of the Torah followers and Hebraic Roots Movement people are super sensitive to their words and find themselves having to defend why they believe what they believe; STOP! For me there is a way to “co-exist” so to speak and that is based on Philippians 2:12 and 1 John 4:1.
Each of us will be judged based on YHWHs purpose for our life. We must work out our own salvation by studying the Word and doing what the Spirit has revealed to us. Whatever we are being taught or told to believe we must study to make sure it is truth and relevant.
Personally, I don’t think GOD really cares if you eat pork or a carrot. I don’t think it is that important to Him if you attend church on Sunday or Saturday. It is written that those who believe in Yeshua Hamashiach, Jesus the Messiah, they are not condemned (Romans 8:1). It is important, however, that whatever you do it gives Him glory; your actions should not turn people away from seeking Him.
COLOSSIANS 3:15-17written by Marsha L F Randolph
And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
